Christmas Lights

The sunlight finally disappears

As the winter night emerges

Cold tries to ruin the fun

But those who are brave come prepared

It’s time, they say, as they climb into their car

Once, every year

Only at this time

She waited to see the magic

That people hang on their houses

Hot chocolate still hot in their hands

As they stroll down their first street

For hours, going down unknown roads

Staring at the beauty that Christmas brings

Maybe it was the softness of the multi-colored lights

Or maybe it was the Christmas magic

That seeped through the cracks

Making them laugh and smile

Even when gloves got a little bigger

And faces got a little older

The unspoken promise of Christmas lights always came
