The Book is Always Better than the Movie, Right?

One of my last classes in college was on adaptations. It was in that class that I learned that adaptations aren’t just a one way road. It isn’t just books to movies. Sometimes it’s the other way around. Although, I hate movie novelizations.

And, sometimes, books turn into movies that turn into plays that inspire more books and more movies.

Before this class, I was one of those stuck-up readers who always said, “The book is better.”

I mean, I still do say that because it’s true…

BUT, I’m a little softer about it now and can appreciate the book and the movie.

Now, I think I’ve been obsessed with finding adaptations or maybe just, inspirations from stories into other forms.

One that I recently noticed was in ‘The Great Mouse Detective’ from Walt Disney Pictures. I watched it on Disney Plus one day, for the nostalgia, and realized it was actually based on the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I couldn’t believe that was right in front of me this whole time.

Which leads me to forever wonder, how many adaptations are there in the world?

Do you like adaptations? Movie or book? Or both? And what are your favorites?
